Sen. Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan) put a special shout out on his Facebook page in honor of Trooper Geno Basanese of the Iron Mountain post, who has been named Trooper of the Year for the Upper Peninsula.
“Thank you for your service and congratulations, Trooper Basanese,” McBroom said.
Basanese has been with the Michigan State Troopers for 20 years. He was given the award for outstanding service, accomplishment and contributions to community life.
“I’m very humbled to be selected," Banasese said at the ceremony, as reported by WLUC TV 6. "It is an honor and a privilege."
Basanese is the community service trooper for the Iron Mountain Police Post. He has spent his entire career in the Upper Peninsula.
McBroom, a fourth-generation dairy farmer, is chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Oversight committees. He previously served three terms in the state House of Representatives. He and his wife have five children.
