State Sen. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, stands with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after she signed Senate Bill 129 into law during the bill-signing ceremony.
Sen. Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City) is checking in on the community he represents, making appearances at the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators conference and the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner and awards celebration on Jan. 25.
Schmidt was joined by Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) and Rep. Darrin Quiroz Camilleri (D-Lansing) on a panel to discuss better outcomes and funding for K-12 students on Jan. 24 at the conference. Schmidt has a history of support for closing the state's education funding gap.
“Several schools across northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula will receive $240 per student as part of the 2X formula,” Schmidt said in a September 2019 release. “Rural Northern Michigan schools are often overlooked and using this formula the last few years has worked to close the funding gap among schools across the state."
East Jordan Area Chamber's annual dinner is the organization's largest event of the year. It brings community members, business leaders and organizations together to celebrate East Jordan success in business, education and tourism.
