Rep. Greg Markkanen (R-Hancock) says that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s support is needed to finalize a back-to-school plan amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s time for her to come to the table and work with us to find a safe and sensible solution that ensures students do not fall behind on their studies,” Markkanen said, according to the Michigan House Republicans website.
The Michigan Legislature has developed a "Return to Learn" plan that focuses on flexibility. It involves ensuring that learning is possible anywhere, providing a safe in-person learning environment, gathering input from parents and administering benchmark assessments for students throughout the year. The plan allows local school districts to choose from in-person, virtual or hybrid models of learning.

“My top priority is making sure local schools have the resources they need to deliver a safe and high-quality education for every one of our kids and grandkids -- regardless of whether learning takes place in the classroom or online,” Markkanen said, according to Michigan House Republicans.
