City of Holland issued the following announcement on Sept. 24
At 11:17 PM on September 23rd, the Holland Fire & Police Departments responded to a report of a fire in the attic at 100 East 21st Street in the City of Holland. Initial reports from police officers on scene indicated that not all of the occupants of the residence were accounted for. These officers made attempts to make sure the residence was evacuated however were pushed back by smoke.
The first arriving unit was on scene at 11:23 PM and reported heavy smoke conditions on the second floor with significant fire venting from the back side of the same area. Firefighters immediately initiated search and rescue as well as fire control tactics to attempt to locate and save potential occupants. Shortly after initiating these tasks it was learned that all occupants safely evacuated the structure and were accounted for. Efforts to bring the fire under control continued and the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes of arrival. Additional efforts throughout the remainder of the night were focused on locating hidden fire in attic void spaces.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the initial operations and was evaluated at Holland Hospital. The firefighter was evaluated and released early this morning. There were no injuries to occupants or residents in neighboring properties.
Damage estimates are not available at this time and the cause of the fire has not been determined. The department’s Fire Marshal will be conducting an investigation and any updates will be provided as they become available.
Mutual aid was received from the Graafschap and Hamilton Fire Departments, who provided coverage for the remainder of the city, and the Park Twp Fire Department who provided personnel and additional breathing air. American Medical Response provided a medical standby for the duration of the incident.
