Northern Michigan University professor John E. Rebers donates $2,200 to Gary Peters' campaign

John E. Rebers, a professor at Northern Michigan University, donated $2,200 to Democratic Party candidate Gary Peters, according to the Federal Election Commission.

According to records, there have been $7,739 in campaign contributions made by individuals affiliated with Northern Michigan University as of November 3. Approximately 87.1 percent, or $6,739, of these contributions were made to Democratic Party candidates and committees.

John E. Rebers' contribution was the largest contribution made by someone affiliated with Northern Michigan University since January 1, 2019.

According to an Inside Higher Ed analysis of federal elections data, individuals that were affiliated with colleges and universities have donated five times more money to Joe Biden than to President Trump. A study by Pew Research in 2017 found that 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents thought colleges and universities have a negative impact on the way things are going in this country.
