City of Bessemer issued the following announcement on Sept 29.
Our gratitude goes to every firefighter and police officer and first responder who assisted with the house fire today on the highway. Much thanks to the neighboring community's fire departments who sent their crews over to assist. We needed every hand to protect the neighboring structures. Thank you.
Our hearts go to the family who lost their house today. We wish you all the best.
You may notice smoke still coming from the house today and perhaps even tomorrow. The structure was not safe to send firefighters into it and so it is continuing to slowly burn. We will have someone on-site monitoring it until it is completely out.
