City of Iron River issued the following announcement on Dec 18.
The City of Iron River is pleased to announce that Curt T. Harrington has been appointed as the Iron River Police Department’s (IRPD) new Police Chief.
When notified about the appointment, Chief Harrington said, “This is an honor, but with honor comes huge responsibility to the residents of the City of Iron River. My philosophy for the IRPD is to be community based, or more involved with community relations by holding a positive public image and have professionally trained officers. The public should expect quality service because they deserve it.”
Chief Harrington also looks to bring a victim centered approach to include bringing justice for victims and providing them with different social services for aftercare. When asked what the public should expect, Chief Harrington said “the enforcement of laws with our officers using good discretion, which encompasses making Iron River a safe City to live or vacation. Because it’s what we do!”
City Manager Rachel Andreski said, “We are very fortunate to have Chief Harrington hold the reins. He has remarkable leadership and communication skills, love for people and the desire to improve our community. He retains high priority for positivity, training, and officer safety for our Police Department and is well respected by his peers, his fellow officers, and the community as a whole.”
Chief Harrington had been serving with the IRPD as an officer for almost one year before being appointed Acting Chief in August of 2021. Chief Harrington has served in Law Enforcement for 19 years with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and 5 years with the US Army Military Police.
