Menominee City Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb 16.
Please be aware someone is calling pretending to be collecting funds for the police department. This is a scam!
There are a lot of scammers out there calling or texting people daily. Stay smart. Never give personal, credit card, or banking information over the phone. No one should be asking you to buy gift cards and calling them back with the codes. Law enforcement agencies will not call you warning you about a warrant for your arrest. The IRS and Social Security agencies don't call individuals.
If possible block the numbers and report any phone scams to the Federal Trade Commission 877-382-4357.
