State Representative Jaime Greene has shared her top priorities for the state of Michigan, calling on Governor Whitmer to focus on making life more affordable, improving education, and addressing local road repairs. In anticipation of the annual State of the State address, Greene emphasized the need for solutions that benefit all Michiganders.
Highlighting the increasing cost of living in the state, Greene pointed out that the recent income tax rate hike has further burdened residents. She stated, "We don't have a lot of money in our pockets because we're all paying more for groceries, gas, and bills. We all want to hear the governor's ideas about how to make life more affordable."
Greene also expressed concern about the state's education system, citing low reading scores and a lack of focus on fundamental education principles. She urged state leaders to prioritize the basics, such as reading, writing, and arithmetic, to ensure that Michigan students are equipped for future success. Greene envisions a future where young individuals can seamlessly enter the workforce and secure employment in Michigan, even if they choose not to pursue a college education.
Another area of concern for Greene is the neglect of local road repairs by the governor. While the budget signed by Gov. Whitmer last year allocated no new funding for local roads, significant investments were made in interstates and state highways. Greene emphasized the need for a fair process that prioritizes the repair of the worst roads throughout the state, rather than engaging in political horse-trading.
In her call for action, Greene stated, "Let's finally fix the 'bleeping' roads, once and for all." She urged the governor to listen to experts and allocate resources appropriately to address the pressing issue of road repairs.
Governor Whitmer will deliver her State of the State address on Wednesday evening, providing an opportunity to address these concerns and outline her plans for the state of Michigan.
