Ironwood Area Schools of Gogebic County welcomed 728 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 728 students enrolled in Ironwood Area Schools of Gogebic County in the 2022-23 school year, 0.8% more than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were girls, and 49% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 88.3% of the Ironwood Area Schools of Gogebic County total enrollment.

Ironwood Area Schools of Gogebic County covers two schools within Gogebic County with its main office in Ironwood. Among them, Luther L. Wright K-12 School recorded the highest enrollment of 700 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
