State Rep. Jaime Greene has put forth a proposal to create an apprenticeship program specifically designed for Michigan Army National Guard and Air National Guard service members. Greene's initiative aims to recognize the training and skills acquired during service in the National Guard towards obtaining apprenticeship certifications. These certifications, which are approved by the Department of Labor and qualify for the G.I. Bill, will open doors for service members to progress in high-demand career fields.

"We are immensely proud of our Guardsmen here in Michigan," expressed Greene, emphasizing her dedication to supporting the state's service members and their families. "This program offers them a valuable opportunity for career advancement. It's one way to show our support for those who serve and protect our communities."

Under the proposed plan, known as House Bill 5703, the apprenticeship program will come at no cost to the service members, ensuring that they can pursue professional growth without financial constraints. The program will incorporate on-the-job learning within the service members' duty hours, overseen by their respective supervisors.

"By bridging National Guard experience with civilian credentials, we can set our service members up for success while also addressing critical workforce needs in our state," Greene explained.

House Bill 5703 has been forwarded to the House Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security Committee for further evaluation and consideration.
