In a challenging season finale at home, Northern Michigan University (NMU) faced a tough defeat against Ferris State University. The Wildcats, who have yet to secure a win this season, lost 55-9 to the No. 2 ranked Bulldogs.
A standout moment for NMU came from seniors Jake Bilitz and Michael Love, who connected on a 78-yard touchdown pass. This play marked the longest score in their respective careers. Another scoring moment for NMU was a safety, which was the first in six years for the team. Vince Martin managed to disrupt a punt that resulted in two points when it bounced through the end zone.
Ferris State led early with a 7-0 advantage after recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown. By halftime, they extended their lead to 27-2 with three more touchdowns. The Bulldogs continued their offensive momentum with scores of 66 yards, 44 yards, and 30 yards before NMU's final touchdown concluded the game's scoring. A defensive highlight for NMU occurred when Mitch Larkin executed a tackle for loss on fourth down near the goal line.
Overall, Northern Michigan achieved ten first downs and accumulated 246 yards of offense compared to Ferris State's 507 yards. On defense, Jake Price recovered a fumble while Jax Hertel and Justin Peake each contributed six tackles.
Looking ahead, NMU will face Davenport in Grand Rapids next Saturday at noon.
