Northern Michigan's head coach Shane Richardson commented on the team's mindset: "We have to continue to experience our successes and eliminate the negativity in our minds and our emotions and continue to move forward in a positive way."

In their previous outing, Northern Michigan was defeated by Ferris State with a score of 55-9. Despite the loss, senior players Jake Bilitz and Michael Love connected for a notable 78-yard touchdown pass. Additionally, Vince Martin scored a safety, marking NMU's first such play in six years.

The Wildcats' roster is notably young, with nearly half being first-year players. Freshman Jahi Wood ranks fourth in the conference for rushing yards with 476. Meanwhile, Michael Love stands third in touchdown catches within the conference.

On defense, Adam Saleh has made an impact with his tackle count placing him fifth overall in the conference standings. Special teams player Michael Karlen remains perfect on field goals this season.

Davenport enters the game following a recent defeat against Saginaw Valley State. Their offense features running back Myren Harris who leads the conference with 716 rushing yards. On defense, Geemontae Peck spearheads their sack count with 4.5 this season.

Special teams have been particularly strong for Davenport, boasting a national-best kickoff return average led by Antjuan Collins.

Historically, Davenport has dominated past encounters against NMU, winning their last four meetings including a 28-12 victory last year.
