FOIA Request to Dickinson County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Dickinson County Election Division. The request, sent on October 30, 2024, is specifically for the records of pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county's elections.

The requested records are expected to be provided in an electronic format, preferably PDF. The fields that we have asked for include the date of the test, the machine's manufacturer, its model number, and whether it passed or failed the test.

As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is crucial for us. These records will enable us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as media professionals disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. We eagerly await a response from the Dickinson County Election Division regarding this request.
