FOIA Request Sent to Houghton County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Houghton County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024. As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have submitted a request for records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

The request specifically seeks access to pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county's elections. The requested documents are expected to provide information about the date of testing, machine manufacture, machine model number, and the status of each machine - whether it passed or failed the test.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that this information will greatly contribute towards ensuring that our readers are well-informed about the integrity of voting systems in their locality. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving a positive response from the Houghton County Election Division regarding this request and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
