FOIA Request Sent to Luce County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Testing Report on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Luce County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Testing Report on October 30, 2024.

In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process, we at UP Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Luce County Election Division. The request was made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., with a preference for an electronic format response.

The records requested pertain specifically to the pre-election testing reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. The information sought includes details such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status - whether it passed or failed during testing.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to these public records is essential for us at UP Gazette. This will enable us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We await the Luce County Election Division's response and cooperation in this matter as we continue our work in ensuring transparency in our local government's affairs.
