Northern Michigan's head coach Shane Richardson commented on the upcoming match: "I really liked the way we approached last week's game and the guys believed we could continue to improve and get better. Wayne State is going to be athletic and hungry and have some confidence coming off of a win. We have to be ready to play in someone else's environment and try to do well at."

In their last outing, NMU was defeated by Ferris State with a score of 55-9. Despite the loss, senior players Jake Bilitz and Michael Love connected for a notable 78-yard touchdown pass. Additionally, Vince Martin scored a safety by blocking a punt that resulted in two points.

The Wildcats feature one of the youngest rosters nationally, with first-year players making up nearly half of their team. Freshman Jahi Wood ranks fourth in conference rushing yards with 559 yards this season. Michael Love stands third in receiving touchdowns within the conference with five TD catches.

Wayne State enters this game following their only victory of the season against Roosevelt, where they won decisively by 38-14. Jeremiah Sterling Jr. led Wayne State's offense with three rushing touchdowns.

Historically, Wayne State won last year's matchup against NMU with a score of 41-17. However, NMU had claimed victories in their previous two encounters.
