Northern Michigan University (NMU) is organizing an open tryout for its 2025 football team. Head Coach Shane Richardson has announced that the tryout will occur on Wednesday, March 19th at 8 a.m. at the Superior Dome.

Students wishing to participate must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for the fall semester and maintain good academic standing. Before taking part in the tryout, several documents must be submitted to NMU:

- A physical exam conducted by a licensed MD, DO, PA, or NP within six months before the competitive season.

- A completed and signed "Pre-Participation Evaluation" form.

- Proof of sickle cell testing from certified laboratories to ensure accurate identification of the trait. Proper sample handling and result verification are crucial for maintaining testing integrity and assessing health risks during intense physical activity.

- A signed "Consent to Treat Form."

- A signed "Assumption of Risk Form."

All forms and additional information regarding the tryouts can be accessed online.

Prospective participants need to contact Assistant Coach Elijah Fernandez via email at efernand@nmu.edu to reserve their spot in the tryout. The required documentation should be submitted at least one week prior to the tryout date.

NMU reserves the right to prevent participation if there are any safety concerns about prospective student-athletes. Participants should bring their own cleats and workout gear.

The university encourages interested students to join and wishes them luck with "Go Wildcats!"
