The City of Marquette will start its annual maintenance of the Father Marquette Statue in Father Marquette Park at 501 S Front St on October 14. The project involves cleaning and applying a protective wax to the bronze statue. This is intended to help preserve the sculpture against weather and other environmental factors.

Scaffolding will be set up around the statue during the maintenance work to ensure safety for both visitors and workers. The park will remain open, but officials ask that people follow posted signs and exercise caution near the site.

The preservation project is funded by the City of Marquette Public Art Fund. According to city officials, this effort is part of their ongoing responsibility to care for public art in Marquette.
