City of Mackinac Island recently issued the following announcement.

Join thousands of pedestrians as they participate in a long standing tradition, the LABOR DAY BRIDGE WALK. This event has been held every year since 1958. The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. on Labor Day and concludes at 11:00 a.m. This is the only day of the year that walking the "Mighty Mac" is allowed
The Labor Day Bridge walk is recognized as "The World's Greatest Walking Event"! The walk brings over 70,000 people to the area. Buses are available for transportation to the North end of the bridge. Participants begin on the St. Ignace side of the bidge in the Upper Peninsula and walk south to Mackinaw City in the Lower Peninsula. At the finish line you are awarded a numbered certificate of completion. Make the LABOR DAY BRIDGE WALK a new tradition and join us in Mackinaw City this year.
