State Sen. Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan) announced that his state office in Lansing will be closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to MiSenateGOP, McBroom's message to the public is: “In following the recommendations of our medical professionals and elected leaders, I have closed my legislative office to limit social contact to help protect the health of the public and my staff. But just because our physical office is closed does not mean my staff and I are unavailable. We are continuing to work to serve the needs of the district’s residents, and we may be contacted by phone, email and social media as usual.”

To stay updated, the office provided contact information. The phone numbers are 866-305-2038 (toll-free) or 517-373-7840. The office email address is SenEMcBroom@senate.michigan.gov.

The office of the senator gave recommendations for residents of the Upper Peninsula. The website issues periodic press releases, including one published March 31 that advises Michigan residents on resources available that can assist them during this time.

According to MiSenateGOP, McBroom said, “The governor’s stay-home order and other measures that have been taken to slow the spread of the coronavirus are helping, but this time away from work, school and our normal everyday routines is also proving to be challenging. This time of fear and uncertainty is understandably affecting many people in ways they didn’t know or think was possible.”

He continued, “We are all in this together, and it is important that we check in on our loved ones during this time to offer help and support when possible, because together we will overcome this challenge. If you or someone you know is having a hard time, you are not alone. And if you want to talk to someone, there is help.”

McBroom noted that Michigan 211 is available for help of all kinds. Dial 211 or go to mi211.org.

The Disaster Distress Helpline is another resource available at any time for those affected in negative ways by COVID-19. It specializes in providing disaster and crisis counseling. Visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website or call 800-985-5990 for assistance.
