Michigan's Upper Peninsula hasn't been hit hard by COVID-19, relative to other areas of Michigan, which has led some people to wonder if closing Mackinac Bridge would help keep the Peninsula safe from further spread of the virus.
If Mackinac Bridge were to close off to everyone but essential traffic, some question if it would slow the spread of COVID-19, according to The St. Ignace News. But Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the only person with the power to close that section of I-75, said she will not be closing off Mackinac Bridge.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) has also said nothing about closing the bridge, and even if the organization wanted to close the bridge, it isn't legal for it to do so, according to the St. Ignace News.
But the MBA has implemented some changes in response to the coronavirus, such as temporarily not accepting cash to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
