Cost of college went up for all students at Gogebic Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.5 percent for 2018-19 at Gogebic Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $6,474 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $216 more than the $6,258 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 13.9 percent more than residents this year, or $7,373. Their price tag grew 2.6 percent from $7,188 in 2017-18.

About 87 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 13 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 82 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 138 students received grants or scholarships totaling $706,352 and 70 students took out student loans totaling more than $319,981.

Including all undergraduates (996), 520 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.5 million, and 292 students took out $1.3 million in federal student loans.
