University of Michigan issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.

President Mark Schlissel and Provost Susan M. Collins are launching a weekly COVID-19 briefing to keep members of the University of Michigan community up-to-date on news and information related to the pandemic.

Starting Oct. 2, the briefings will be scheduled every Friday at 1 p.m. on the video conferencing platform Zoom. Schlissel, Collins and other university leaders will provide updates about campus conditions and take questions.

Participation will be limited to 20,000 U-M students, faculty and staff. All participants will be required to install and log in to Zoom using their university credentials.

The briefings will be recorded for people who aren’t able to watch them live, and will be posted under the “Messages” section of the Campus Maize & Blueprint website.

A weekly email will be sent out to the university community ahead of each briefing with a link to the Zoom session. The email also will have a link to a form that can be used to submit questions before and during the live event.

The Oct. 2 briefing is expected to last 45 minutes. Subsequent briefings are expected to last one hour.
