A conservative watchdog group has pointed out that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer neglected her own COVID-19 executive order when she attended President Joe Biden’s inauguration at the Capitol in Washington D.C. on Jan. 20, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
Michigan Rising Actions said in an email that a Jan. 13 health order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reduced outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 25 people in an attempt to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
Whitmer tweeted a snapshot of herself at the inauguration celebration, where well over 25 people were present. The executive order reveals that the 25-person limit would be excused for people who are voting or attending “official election-related activities.”
In October of last year, Whitmer criticized former President Donald Trump for hosting campaign rallies in Michigan. “This is a recipe for disaster, and we have seen COVID outbreaks as a result of these rallies," Whitmer said, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential. "I’m encouraging Michigan citizens: Don’t attend events like this.”
