Breitung Township School District issued the following announcement on Sept 17.
As many of you are likely aware, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department issued a mask order effective Monday, September 20, 2021 for all students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Additionally, this order applies to all persons, regardless of vaccination status, providing services to any child in kindergarten through sixth grade while inside any enclosed building or structure of instruction. I officially received notice of this order via email after school on Thursday, September 16, when it was made public. I have also been informed that this order is enforceable and must be followed by school districts.
There are provisions for medical or developmental exemptions within the order. The exemption request form must be completed by a parent as well as a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) who is currently licensed to practice in the State of Michigan and approved by the building administrator.
Breitung Township Schools has been using the BTS COVID Operations Plan 2021-2022 since the beginning of the school year. We will be updating the plan to reflect the recent masking order from the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department. We are not currently adding students to our virtual learning program, Flivver Connect, as we are at capacity. If there are additional changes made, we will inform our staff, students, and families.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the nature of this order, I encourage you to contact the Dickinson- Iron District Health Department. While this change has a significant impact on many of our students and staff members, I ask that you please remain supportive of our school district, staff members, and our students. We will continue to provide the best possible learning environment given the current requirements we are expected to follow.
