THROWBACK THURSDAY: a postcard titled "In the Land of Hiawatha" shows the post office and Elks Club buildings on Ludington Street in Escanaba in the early 20th century. Notice the house between them, along with the trolley tracks in the middle of the street.

The trolley used to run from a depot near the House of Ludington to Stephenson Avenue, then headed north to Wells, crossed the river, went along the highway at the base of the bluff, down through Gladstone, curved to head north to Kipling, and ended just before the Days River.

There was also a trolley spur running on what is now South Ninth Street, turned west on Sixth Avenue South, then south again at 13th Street. It went to what is now Veterans Park, which was the first baseball field. Special cars would run out there on game days.
