Census Bureau: 12.3% of people in Chippewa County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 37,091 citizens living in Chippewa County in 2021, 87.7% said they were only one race, while 12.3% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Chippewa County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 67.9% or 25,185 individuals. Following them, American Indian or Alaska Native accounted for 13.5% and totaled 4,999 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Chippewa County is 7.7% higher than the state average, which stands at 4.6%.
