Houghton County’s 40 coaches earned an average salary of $48,455 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the ninth highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Michigan post-secondary schools during 2022.

Houghton County is home to two post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Michigan Technological University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $48,557.

Male coaches of men's teams received $57,643 on average in Houghton County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $38,375.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
