FOIA Request to Mackinac County Regarding Vendor Payments in 2024 on September 26th.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, we at UP Gazette have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Mackinac County, Michigan. This request seeks access to public records detailing all payments made to vendors from January 1st, 2024 until September 26th, 2024.
The specific fields we are interested in include the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and the amount paid. We believe that this information is vital for our reporting and will provide valuable insights into the county's financial dealings during this period.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have requested these records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., preferably in electronic format. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
