NMU falls to Roosevelt in challenging debut matchup

The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team faced a challenging match against Roosevelt University, resulting in a 1-0 defeat. This encounter marked the first meeting between the two teams and took place under difficult weather conditions with strong winds and rain.

The decisive moment came in the first half when Haris Sarajlila of Roosevelt scored after a mishap involving NMU's goalkeeper, Nils Cedergren. The Wildcats faced further challenges when Finn van den Berg received a red card in the 50th minute, leaving them one player short for the remainder of the game.

Despite being awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute, NMU's Alessandro Scialanga was unable to convert as Roosevelt's goalkeeper Eric Carvajal made a crucial save. The Wildcats continued to press but could not find an equalizer.

Overall, NMU outshot their opponents 18-15 and had more corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on these opportunities. The loss brings NMU's overall record to 4-4-1 with a conference record of 1-4.

NMU will next play against Davenport in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 11.
