The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team faced a challenging match against Saginaw Valley, resulting in a 1-0 defeat on their home ground. The game was marked by strong winds and aggressive play from both sides.

Saginaw Valley took the lead in the 20th minute when Jonny Monney skillfully maneuvered past two Wildcat defenders and goalkeeper Nils Cedergren to score in the left corner of the net. Despite maintaining possession in Saginaw's defensive half for much of the game, NMU was unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

Throughout the match, NMU earned nine corners and 12 free kicks but failed to find an equalizer. Their best chance came late in the second half when Tommaso Lami delivered a cross into Teun Van Gansewinkel, whose shot was blocked.

NMU now holds a record of 4-6-2 as they prepare to face Davenport on Sunday, October 20th. Key players James Carr, Alessandro Scialanga, Finn van den Berg, Quint Van Roij, Lami, and Isaac Cervantes played all 90 minutes of this intense match.

Despite outnumbering Saginaw Valley in corner kicks with nine compared to three and having Scialanga leading with three shots on goal, NMU could not break through Saginaw's defense. Goalkeeper Cedergren made three saves during the game.

As they look forward to their next match against Davenport for senior day at 2 p.m., NMU hopes to improve their performance and secure a win.
