The NMU men's soccer team faced a setback with a 3-1 loss to the Roosevelt Lakers in Chicago on Sunday. The match marked the senior day for the Wildcats.
The Lakers took the lead half an hour into the game, heading into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Both teams had two shots on target during the first half, while NMU led in corner kicks, taking six compared to three by Roosevelt.
Early in the second half, the Lakers scored twice more, putting NMU at a 3-0 disadvantage within seven minutes. Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin managed to score for NMU after receiving a pass from Kyle Cameron late in the match. Despite having eight shots to four and two corners to none against their opponents, NMU could not bridge the gap.
Following this result, NMU's record stands at 5-7-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play. They are set to conclude their regular season with away games against Purdue Northwest and Parkside next weekend.
The game's opening goal came from a quick service off an awarded free kick that caught NMU's defense off guard. Schuster capitalized on this opportunity with a one-on-one attempt against Cedergren. Another defensive error allowed Schuster to score again early in the second half.
Later, Kyle Cameron delivered a pass from Jan Hoffmann downfield, setting up Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin for NMU's lone goal past Roosevelt's goalkeeper.
