Northern Michigan men's soccer falls to Purdue Northwest in home defeat

The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team faced Purdue Northwest in a challenging match, resulting in a 3-0 defeat for the Wildcats. The game took place in Marquette, Michigan.

Purdue Northwest's Martin Murillo opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a long-range shot that found its way into the top right corner of NMU's net. Despite several opportunities, NMU struggled to score throughout the match.

Purdue extended their lead in the second half with goals from Jacob Battista and Christian Booth, both placing their shots into the bottom right corner of NMU's goal. A significant moment occurred when Kyle Cameron received a red card in the 85th minute, leaving NMU with ten players for the remainder of the game.

NMU's overall record now stands at 5-8-2, with a conference record of 2-8-1. Throughout the match, NMU managed to create several chances but failed to convert them into goals. Alessandro Scialanga and Tommaso Lami were among those who came close to scoring for NMU.

In total, NMU had eight shots on target out of thirteen attempts compared to Purdue's five on target from eight attempts. Both teams engaged aggressively, resulting in sixteen penalties each; however, NMU received three yellow cards and one red card while Purdue received four yellow cards.

Quint Van Roij earned his fifth yellow card of the season during this match and will face suspension for one game. Scialanga, Lami, and Isaac Cervantes played full-time for NMU.

Looking ahead, NMU is set to play UW Parkside on November 3 at 2:30 PM ET for their final regular-season game.
