FOIA Request Sent to Menominee County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Testing Report on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Menominee County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Pre-Election Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

In our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have submitted a request for records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The request was made to the Menominee County Election Division and pertains specifically to the pre-election testing reports of voting machines used in the county.

The requested records are expected to provide key details about each voting machine tested before the election. These details include the date of testing, machine manufacture, machine model number, and status of the machine (whether it passed or failed the test).

We believe that access to these public records is essential for us at UP Gazette to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

As always, we will continue striving towards ensuring that information about public institutions remains accessible and transparent for all citizens.
