FOIA Request to Mackinac County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have requested records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The request specifically pertains to the pre-election test reports for election voting machines used in Mackinac County.
We have asked for these reports in an electronic format, preferably PDF, with specific fields included. These fields are: the date of the test, the manufacturer of the machine, the model number of the machine, and the status of the machine after testing (whether it passed or failed).
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
