A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Menominee County Election Division in Michigan on February 5, 2025. The request was made by UP Gazette, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the interest of transparency and public accountability, we at UP Gazette have asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We believe that it is essential for voters to know who their potential representatives are, their party affiliations, and what offices they are running for. This information will allow citizens to make informed decisions when casting their votes.
The specifics of our request include each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are vying for; the jurisdiction of said office; and their party affiliation. In addition to this, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media committed to serving our community with accurate news coverage, we believe access to such public records is vital in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We aim to hold public institutions accountable while ensuring transparency for the general public.
We have requested these records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., preferably in an electronic format. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
Our goal at UP Gazette is always to keep our readers informed about local government affairs. With this information at hand, we can continue doing just that as we approach the upcoming elections.
