FOIA Request to Ontonagon County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have submitted a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. This request, sent to the Ontonagon County Election Division, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, we have asked for a list of all candidates that includes their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. In addition to this, we have also requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at UP Gazette as it allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per our professional status.
