FOIA Request to Dickinson County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Dickinson County Election Division. The request, dated February 5, 2025, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election in Michigan.

The requested records include each candidate's full name (first, middle, and last), the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. Additionally, we have asked for complete contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

We look forward to receiving this information promptly so that we can continue our mission of keeping our readers informed about their local government.
