FOIA Request to Luce County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at UP Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Luce County Election Division in Michigan. The request was sent on February 5, 2025.
In line with the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., we have requested records of all candidates running for the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
Furthermore, we have requested all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
