State Representative Greg Markkanen has drawn attention to the increased funding allocated to Michigan Technological University as part of the House Higher Education Budget. The budget, totaling $2.4 billion, raises Michigan Tech's funding to $111.62 million, marking an increase of $17.29 million.

In addition to the increased funding for Michigan Tech, the budget proposal includes a scholarship initiative offering $5,500 per year to all Michigan high school graduates who choose to attend a public or private university within the state.

Markkanen expressed his support for these measures by stating, "Michigan Tech is one of our nation’s leading research institutions. There is no better school equipped to educate our resident graduates and send them off into our statewide workforce." He further emphasized that the budget aims to make higher education more affordable and encourage students to transition directly from high school into top-class institutions within Michigan.

The proposed budget intends not only to make college more accessible but also aims at boosting enrollment in colleges and universities across the state while contributing to the development of a skilled workforce comprised of local residents.
