The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) is showcasing progress made through the MI Neighborhood initiative, with nearly $105 million allocated statewide for the construction and rehabilitation of 2,942 homes over the past 16 months. This week, MSHDA CEO and Executive Director Amy Hovey, along with agency staff, are touring nine housing development projects backed by MI Neighborhood.
"Our Neighborhood Development Division supports and finances smaller-scale developments, often led by emerging developers," said Hovey. "This new affordable housing, funded by a blend of state and federal funding in alignment with Statewide Housing Plan goals, makes a real difference in stabilizing neighborhoods and helping more UP families realize the dream of homeownership, while getting us closer to ending the housing shortage."
Since its launch in April 2024, MI Neighborhood has directed $9 million towards Upper Peninsula projects for the construction and rehabilitation of over 180 homes. In 2024 alone, all MSHDA programs invested $22,295,553 across the Upper Peninsula. In 2025 so far, investments have reached $10,399,396.
MSHDA plans to announce further MI Neighborhood investments in the Upper Peninsula soon. This week’s visits include stops at projects in Sault Ste. Marie, Marquette, Houghton, Kingsford, and Quinnesec. The team will also visit a project in Walloon Lake after returning to the Lower Peninsula.
