Northern Michigan University football schedules open tryouts for August 27

Northern Michigan University’s football program will hold open tryouts for the 2025 team on Wednesday, August 27 at 6 p.m. The session is scheduled to take place at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

Head coach Shane Richardson said, "Northern Michigan University football head coach Shane Richardson is excited to announce an open tryout for the 2025 NMU football team. The tryout will take place on Wednesday, August 27th at 6 p.m. at the Superior Dome."

Students interested in participating must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours for the fall semester and maintain good academic standing. Required documentation includes proof of a physical exam conducted within six months by a licensed medical professional, a completed pre-participation evaluation form, documentation of sickle cell testing from certified laboratories, and signed consent to treat and assumption of risk forms.

All necessary forms and additional information are available online. Prospective participants must contact Assistant Coach Elijah Fernandez via email at efernand@nmu.edu to secure a spot in the tryout. Documentation must be submitted to Northern Michigan University no later than one week before the event.

The university notes that it may prohibit participation if there are concerns about an individual’s safety. Participants are required to bring their own cleats and workout gear.

"Please note that NMU reserves the right to disallow physical participation if there are concerns regarding the safety of any prospective student-athlete. Participants should bring their own cleats and workout gear," according to the announcement.
