The City of Marquette has released educational materials about lead in drinking water, following recent water sampling that found elevated lead levels in some homes. The materials are available at City Hall and online at www.marquettemi.gov/LCRPE2025.

This action comes as part of state compliance requirements after the city conducted routine water quality monitoring earlier this year. During the summer, 6 out of 32 homes tested showed lead concentrations above the state's Action Level.

According to the city, there is no known lead present in Marquette’s water mains or service lines. However, lead may still be found in interior plumbing, fixtures, or solder within certain homes. The city treats its water with corrosion control methods to reduce the risk of lead leaching into household water supplies.

Residents can access guidance on minimizing potential exposure to lead through the public education materials at www.marquettemi.gov/LCRPE2025. Further details about Marquette’s water system and ongoing testing are also provided at www.marquettemi.gov/departments/public-works/water-distribution.

"This notice is being issued in compliance with state requirements, following water sampling conducted earlier this year. The City regularly tests residential tap water for lead and copper as part of its standard water quality monitoring program. During this summer’s sampling, 6 of 32 homes tested showed lead levels above the state’s Action Level."

"Marquette has no known lead in the city’s water mains or service lines. In some homes, however, lead may be present in interior plumbing, fixtures, or solder. The City’s water supply is treated with corrosion control measures designed to minimize lead leaching."
