Rick Comley, the Athletic Director at Northern Michigan University, announced that Shane Richardson has resigned as head football coach, effective immediately.
"We are committed to achieving standards consistent with our focus on the success of each of our student athletes," Comley stated. "The search for a new head coach will begin immediately."
The university will not release further details about Richardson's resignation, citing privacy concerns regarding personnel matters.
Billy Lindquist has been named interim head coach for the rest of the season. Assistant Coach Joe Gatz, who had been on administrative leave, will return to the coaching staff on November 10. He will help prepare the team for their final game of the season against Wayne State University, scheduled for November 15 at 1 p.m. in the Superior Dome.
