Enrollment at Escanaba Area Public Schools decreased by 0.8% compared to previous school year

There were 2,129 students enrolled in Escanaba Area Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 0.8% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 88.7% of the Escanaba Area Public Schools total enrollment.

Escanaba Area Public Schools covers five schools within Delta County with its main office in Escanaba. Among them, Escanaba Junior-Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,100 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
