There were 604 students enrolled in Hancock Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 7.2% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.6% of them were boys, and 46.4% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 95.4% of the Hancock Public Schools total enrollment.

Hancock Public Schools covers two schools within Houghton County with its main office in Hancock. Among them, Hancock Middle-High School recorded the highest enrollment of 332 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
