West Iron County Public Schools Education: 846 students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 846 students enrolled in West Iron County Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.8% more than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.2% of them were girls, and 47.8% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 85.3% of the West Iron County Public Schools total enrollment.

West Iron County Public Schools covers three schools within Iron County with its main office in Iron River. Among them, West Iron County High School recorded the highest enrollment of 469 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
