Bishop John Doerfler of the Diocese of Marquette has issued a statement regarding Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic exhortation, "Dilexi Te," which addresses the Church's mission to care for the poor. Bishop Doerfler said he looks forward to studying the document, noting that it continues the Church’s tradition of emphasizing the “preferential option for the poor.”

He acknowledged those in his diocese who support people in need, including organizations such as the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Social Services, and local parishes and schools. He also recognized national and international groups like Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities USA, the Order of Malta, and Catholic Extension.

Bishop Doerfler referenced scripture in his message: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25: 35-36, 40)
