Alger County recently issued the following announcement.
With the support and assistance of the Kiwanis Club of Alger County, the Alger County Recycling Committee will be operating a Recycling Collection Center for the Summer. The Recycling Collection Site will be located at the former MSP post, 500 ft. east of the roundabout on County Highway H-58. (a sign will be displayed out front)
The hours of operation Mondays 2:00 - 6:00 have been established to correspond with daily work and shift change schedules so that individuals living and working in the Munising area have access to a convenient recycling opportunity. Recyclables can only be dropped off Monday 2:00 - 6:00.
The three month long "demonstration" project will start June 7th and end August 30th. The intent of the project, in addition to offering the opportunity to recycle this summer, will be to provide the Alger County Recycling Committee with the following information as they work to develop a county wide recycling program:
- The level of community interest and participation in recycling
- Determine the quantities of recyclables that will be collected on a weekly basis
- If participants consider it reasonable to pay a per bag fee for recycling
- To provide education and coaching of proper sorting and preparation of recyclables
Kiwanis Club and Alger County Recycling Committee members will be attending the collection site to provide information and assistance to recyclers. Please stop by with your recyclables and help make recycling work for Alger County.
The cost for a 45 gallon trash bag full of recyclables will be $2.00/bag, paid when the bag is emptied into the collection bin.
